Betting patterns do not increase the expected returns in any wager in any online casino game. Yet many seasoned players religiously follow favorite betting patterns. To them betting patterns are more of lucky mascots than anything else. This article discusses two betting patterns that are very common in online sic bo.

These betting patterns are used in conjunction with the Big and Small wagers. These wagers have low house edges but pay out at only even money. Therefore they are used by the more conservative sic bo players. There are two aspects to these wagering patterns. One aspect is the decision of wagering on the Small bet or the Big bet. The other aspect is the decision of the amount of the wager. In the first instance it is being assumed that the players will always wager on the Small bet so that the focus can be on the amount of the wager.

The first of the betting patterns is 1-3-2-4. If the player keeps on winning then he wagers 1.00 credit in the first roll, 3.00 credits in the second roll, 2.00 credits in the third roll and 4.00 credits in the fourth roll. Thereafter he goes back to 1.00 credit and the pattern repeats. However if the player loses on any roll he immediately goes back to 1.00 credit in the next roll and starts the pattern all over again. If the player loses on the first roll he loses 1.00 credit. If he loses on the second roll he loses 2.00 credits. If he loses on the third roll he wins two credits. If he loses on the fourth roll he wins 2.00 credits. If he keeps winning then he makes 10.00 credits for the pattern. Hence if the player wins the first two rolls then he will be a net winner, but winning the first two rolls is a big if.

The second betting pattern is 1-3-2-6. The wagering follows the same principle, but this pattern is a bit more aggressive. Losses or wins on the first three rolls yield identical results to the earlier pattern. If the player loses on the fourth roll he breaks even in this betting pattern. However if he wins on the fourth roll then he makes 12.00 credits on the pattern.

The next question is how to toggle between the Small bet and the Big bet. Mathematically it really does not matter even if the bets are chosen randomly or if the player chooses one of the bets and sticks with it. However in practice players have their favorite methods. Some players watch for a dozen rolls or so and get a sense of whether the Small and Big bets are winning alternately or in streaks. If they have a gut feeling that the bets are winning alternately then they will place the first wager on one of them and the next wager on the other. If they have a feeling that the bets are winning in streaks they would follow the entire cycle with one bet and then take a call before starting the next cycle of the pattern.

In conclusion it bears repetition that these patterns or others like them do not increase the chances of a player winning. They are idiosyncrasies that gamblers have and need to be treated as such.
